One of the benefits to staying in a Crash Pad is that they are usually fully furnished, large scale homes.
This makes bringing your family to training with you much easier.
Check with each Crash Pad owner on their policies for bringing your family.
Joint Travel Regulations
The Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) is the guiding document on all Department of Defense travel. The link below will take you to a PDF of the current JTR per diem policies. Section 020303 contains the information for TDY lodging.
Table 2-14 of section 020303 states, "If adequate Government quarters are available on the U.S. installation to which a Service member is assigned TDY, but the Service member chooses to use other lodging, then the Service member is limited to the reimbursement cost of Government quarters on the assigned TDY installation (44 Comp. Gen. 626 (1965)))."
Each Crash Pad will have its own rules on if they allow pets.
Once you find a Crash Pad for your TDY location, reach out to the owner to see if they allow pets.
Military Only?
Most Crash Pad owners don't limit their lodging just to military members. If you have an extended work trip, once you find a Crash Pad for your location, reach out to the owner to inquire on staying with them.
You will most likely still be charged the same VOQ rate for your stay each night.
Insurance
Most Crash Pads state in their contract that they are not liable for the possessions you bring with you.
It is highly recommended that you secure your own renters insurance for your stay.
DTS
First time using DTS? Reach out to a Crash Pad owner and they can point you in the right direction towards someone who can help you fill out your Trip Details and Voucher.
Your base should provide you with a guide to filling out your DTS request as well.
